Athens is amazing! Stayed at the very charming Hera Hotel (36 rooms) only a block away from all the major sites. On the first day, we walked the streets of Athens to the Plaka (old historical neighbourhood). Found a nice little cafe where Emma and Michelle enjoyed Greek salads (ate one at every stop we made in Greece!). After lunch walked to the Acropolis Museum to go indoors where it was cool. The museum is very creatively built over ruins with glass floors looking down into the ruins (vertigo!). Emma took a few photos inside the museum before being told to put her camera away. For dinner, we ate at the hotel's outdoor rooftop restaurant, which has an awesome view of the Parthenon.
On the second day, we walked to a cafe for a tradional Greek breakfast, then on to the Acropolis to see the famous Parthenon, the Temple of Athena, and other buildings. Prior to entering the Acropolis, we saw the restored theatre Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Within the Acropolis we looked down at the ruins of the Theatre of Dionysus and other sites. After visiting the Acropolis we walked down to the site of Ancient Agora. Visited the Stoa of Attalos (covered walkway) and the Temple of Hephaestus. From there, we walked back to the streets of Athens and on to the ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Finally, we returned to the hotel for a short rest. Emma had enough walking for the day so Mike and Michelle went back out on their own. We walked to the Old Olympic Stadium, through the public gardens, and past the Parliament building.
